Our Little Garden Dream : : Food for the Soul

Our Little Garden ~ Homegrown Inspiration

As I was saying in my last post... We were doing some gardening and enjoying the sunny weekend. And these are some favorites snapshots from the garden.

Our little garden gave us some sweet strawberries {the strawberry plant still small but during the first days of autumn we were able to delight our selves with these lovely strawberries} A little past strawberry season, but well worth the wait! We also grew tomatoes! Yes, we planted three tomato plants last year {some small pear shaped tomatoes} and they came out wonderful :) Small, sweet, delicious. These small tomatoes are my absolute favorite...  they are the perfect bite sized. And complemented many of our salads and picnics too.

We have been growing herbs in pots too. I love fresh homegrown herbs, they are pretty convenient and they fit so well in small gardens - Indeed! Even in a small garden like mine :)

Some of the herbs I've been growing, I regularly use in my cooking; parsley, mint, oregano {this oregano herb grow and spread quickly and I've been able to enjoy it all year-round} - sage, basil and lemon grass. And I hope to grow some more herbs and veggies during the year :)

Some of the flower plants are also pretty and fragrant 'particularly the lavender flowers' -although some of them are suffering the effects of cold weather. And I'm waiting patiently {not true} {totally impatiently} for the 'ranunculus' flowers to sprout!!!

These are just some of the small pleasures of gardening.

I'll be back with recipes soon.  Wishing you all a colorful week ahead!

  3. Aldy, this is great! I grow a lot o my herbs in pots too, it is easier to contain them, specialy oregano and mint. If these are in the ground, they spread like weeds. I also grow carrots in a container, you might want to try this. It is easy and fun! Just choose a dip pot with a wide mouth and you are good to go. Love your pictures!

  5. My garden doesn't have much now to pck, only cavolo nero, a couple of mini leeks, some herbs and a miniature cabbage :-). But I planted lots of seed and seedling for winter, they grow so slow now, but better than nothing. I just have to keep all those snails away!!!

Preciosas fotos. Un besazo

  11. I love growing tomatoes, herbs and flowers in my garden! What a delightful tomato - what is the name of that variety? It's much bigger than any pear tomato I've seen.

  13. @ Susan,Yes me too. Regarding your question, this is a cherry tomato variety.I bought the seeds under the name of 'small gourmet tomato pear'. They are larger than cherry size tomatoes. Hope this help :)

  14. I must admit, I'm a little envious, I'd love to have a garden where we are but we are short on space. Luckily we have a few pots to plant herbs in.

  20. Hi Aldy! Your post made me miss a little bit of fall and all the things that I enjoy during fall, although I waited so long for nice warmer weather.

Qunioa is not something we have in Japan (maybe nowadays possible?) so I didn't grow up eating it. It's such a versatile ingredient. Your photos are so beautiful. I love coming here - easily inspired by your lovely posts.
